From first call to fitted net

Two things to sort out before fitting day. If a nest with eggs or chicks is sitting there, let us know. And ask your society whether it has any rule about things fixed on the outer wall.

• We come and see. Someone trained checks the spot, takes the measurements and tells you what kind of net will work.
• You get the price. Nothing is cut or fixed until you have agreed to it.
• The net goes up. A nylon net, made to last and safe for birds, is stretched over the open area so they cannot get through.

What decides the price

Two things: how many square feet need covering, and how hard the spot is to get to. A small window and a full tower balcony are very different jobs, which is why you will not get a figure from us on the phone. A WhatsApp photo is a good place to start. If you also want the webs cleaned off that balcony, add spider control to the same booking.

• How much will a pigeon net for my Ghatkopar balcony cost?

  No fixed rate, sorry. It changes with the size of the opening and how easily it can be reached, so somebody has to see it. WhatsApp a photo with rough measurements to 80979 41077 and we will fix a visit. You hear the figure before anything gets fitted.

• Can birds get hurt or stuck in the net?

  The nylon net is there to block birds, not to catch them. It should not injure them. The one thing we need from you is word of any eggs or chicks on the ledge, because nobody wants a bird closed in behind the net by accident.

• Will the net need replacing every year?

  It should not. The nylon is made for long use outdoors, but a spot with strong sun and heavy rain will always wear a net faster than a sheltered one. At the visit, ask which net suits your side of the building and how to care for it.

• Can I still see out and get air on my balcony after netting?

  Yes. Air and daylight come through, and once you get used to it, a fine net hardly catches your eye. You will notice it if you stare at it. If your view is important to you, say so at the visit and we will suggest what suits.

• Does the society committee have to agree before a net is fitted?

  Often, yes, because a lot of societies have rules about the outside of the building. Please ask your committee first. If a few neighbours or a whole wing are thinking of it too, the society can ask us to come once and quote for all of them together.

• Pigeons sit in the duct and on my AC unit. Can that be covered?

  If the spot can be reached safely, it can usually be netted. Ducts, ledges and the space around outdoor AC units are all places people ask about. Walk the technician round everything at the visit, wherever you see droppings, so that one corner does not get left open.

• I clean the droppings every week. Why bother with a net?

  Cleaning handles what the birds left yesterday. It does nothing about why they keep coming. Droppings and nests damage what you keep out there, and birds can spread disease. A net means no more shelter on that ledge, and that ends the weekly cleaning without any harm to them.

• What should I show the technician when they come to see the balcony?

  Show every place you have seen birds or droppings, and ask how the net will look from indoors. They will suggest a net based on what they see. You then get the price, and it is your decision. No work happens on that visit unless you have agreed.

• Is the bird net plastic or nylon?

  Ours is nylon. It lasts a long time, and it does not harm birds. It gets stretched across the open area so they cannot come through. Not every opening needs the same net, so the technician picks one for your space once they have seen it.

• Can I get cockroach treatment done on the same day as netting?

  Ask us when you call. Tell us all the work you want, and one booking can often take care of it, for example a net along with spider or lizard work on that balcony. Netting can take its own time, so the technician will tell you how to plan it.
